The Benefits of Snowboarding Sunglasses over Snowboarding Goggles

Snowboarding sunglasses and goggles both provide essential protection for your eyes on the slopes, but they each serve slightly different purposes.

In general terms, snowboard sunglasses are a more comfortable and versatile option on clear or bright sunny days when you don’t need full face coverage or protection from the wind and snow. Snowboard glasses offer superior ventilation compared to goggles – the open design allows air to flow freely, reducing the likelihood of lens fogging. This is particularly beneficial in warmer conditions or during high-intensity snowboarding, such as backcountry riding, when you are generating a lot of body heat.

Snowboarding shades are also lighter and less bulky than goggles. The reduced weight and volume of snowboard shades offer better comfort for extended sessions on the mountain. They are also more versatile, as they can be easily removed and cleaned after a wipeout.

While snowboard sunglasses are not the best choice for inclement weather, they come into their own for spring riding when the air is warmer, and conditions are less harsh.

Snowboard Shades: A Stylish Alternative to Traditional Goggles

Snowboarding sunglasses are a stylish and functional alternative to traditional goggles, offering snowboarders the ability to protect their eyes while enhancing their look on the slopes. For those who prioritize both performance and style, snowboard shades provide a sleek, versatile option that can easily transition from the slopes to après-snowboarding activities.

One of the main reasons snowboarding shades are considered more stylish is their streamlined, lightweight design. Unlike bulky goggles, which can obscure facial features, snowboard glasses provide a minimalist and more sophisticated appearance. They allow snowboarders to maintain a stylish edge without compromising on protection or performance, making them a favorite choice for style-conscious riders.

In addition to their benefits on the slopes, snowboarding sunglasses offer more versatility off the slopes. Snowboard sunglasses can be worn for a range of outdoor activities, from hiking and snowshoeing to simply soaking up the sunshine at the lodge or in the mountain restaurant.

Watersports Sunglass Technology: The Perfect Match for Snowboarding Sunglasses

The technology used in watersports sunglasses is perfectly suited for snowboarding sunglasses because both environments demand high-performance features that enhance vision and protect the eyes from extreme conditions. Whether you’re out on the water or carving down snowy slopes, you’re exposed to intense sunlight, reflected glare, and UV rays, all of which can strain your eyes without the right protection.

One key technology that makes watersports sunglasses ideal for snowboarding is polarization. Polarized lenses reduce glare from reflective surfaces like water and snow, improving visibility in bright conditions and reducing eye strain. Without the correct eye protection, snow blindness is a very real risk on the mountain. Wrap-fit polarized snowboard sunglasses do a great job of attenuating the intense glare that can contribute to the onset of this condition.

Additionally, both watersports and snow ski sunglasses feature a water-repelling hydrophobic coating, which repels water and snow. This coating keeps the lenses clear from water spots, maintaining optimal visibility and reducing the need for constant cleaning.

At LiP Sunglasses, we offer a range of snowboarding sunglasses to match your specific needs even including prescription watersports sunglasses if that’s what you’re looking for. These glasses are great. Well made, lightweight and they look and feel good to wear. My eyes do not squint at all in the bright light - they feel relaxed and do not get sore.

Look no further, these are the BEST surf sunglasses on earth. I’ve tried all the main brands and Lip Typhoon is by far the highest in quality and function. Living in Hawaii, I face the elements everyday and the glasses are my favorite in the ocean, I don’t travel without these shades, Just got back from surf trip in Central America and couldn’t have surfed without them. Aloha!

I have Lip sunglasses 3 years. Positives are sharp vision thanks to polarization and hard antiobrasion surface.
To prevent them from fogging I glued 2 foam 6mm thick distances on the sides, and one at the middle - under the nosepad.
3This way there is much wider distance between my face and lenses enablind easy wind accesss to remove the vapour.
This is especially needed on colder days, but during the summer it improves comfort of foilriding significantly, as I have to observe water surface to evaluate the hight of my ride.
As I wear a helmet, wide gap above glasses is protected from sunlight

Needs a better headstrap similar to older Oakley water jackets. Otherwise comfortable and good for the current price point. Would easily pay additional 50-100 if more sturdy face fit for surfing activities.

I love the fit and that they look cool. I used them in bigger surf and they stayed on my head even through powerful duck dives. The downside is that after two duck dives they became so cloudy that I couldn't see through them. Please send me suggestions on what to do. I'd love to wear them for the summer but they are unusable if you can't see through them.

I like the comfort level of the glasses and the fact that the prescription is accurate. I was skeptical anyone could do this so it was a nice surprise to see everything was great.

The best: Super ventilation. The second best: Anti-water surface. However, if you one day could improve the surface further to anti-salt (water) and anti-sunscreen, the glasses would be brilliant. Third best: Cool and practical design.
