Winter might not seem like the time to prioritise sunglasses, but it’s actually when our eyes need protection the most, especially when you’re out on the water or snow in a highly reflective environment. For most parts of the world, the winter sun is generally at a low angle to the horizon- the sun is not strong – it’s more of a winter glow.  Here’s why photochromic lenses are a smart choice during the colder months when the sun still makes an appearance.:

• UV Exposure Doesn’t Take Time Out: UV rays are present year-round, whether it’s sunny or overcast. Clouds may block some visible sunlight, but harmful UV rays pass through and reflect off clouds effortlessly. As with all of our lenses, our ecLiPse Photochromic lenses strip out 100% of the harmful UVA and UVB radiation, protecting our eyes even when it’s cloudy.

• Dilated Pupils = Greater UV Risk: In darker conditions, our pupils naturally dilate to let in more light to help us see clearly. But this also means our eyes are more vulnerable to UV radiation, as they will inadvertently absorb more harmful UV rays when the sun is hidden behind clouds. Not only do our photochromic lenses block UV rays at all times, they will also adjust their tint according to the amount of UV in the environment. Furthermore, a physical barrier in front of our eyes will offer protection from spray and impacts.
